Day 33: New England Style

By 24 September 2015May 30th, 2023No Comments

Our day started off late, as any good day does, and we headed to Sturbridge Seafood. The clam chowder came highly recommended and… I think it comes in a bread bowl. I cannot wait!

The food was amazing and aside from an old gentleman who sat right next to us who was kind of a looky-loo, the meal was very enjoyable. Again planning on having a “nothing day” we headed to price chopper to get some food that would last us the rest of the day and headed back to camp.

As I am want to do, I took a nap, on the same bed, overlooking the same lake. It was very nice. Bethany did… well, I’m not sure, I was asleep. But I’m sure it was equally enjoyable.

We planned on Skype-ing with her family but that got pushed back until later so we decided to jump on the paddle boats. It’s getting later and it’s supposed to rain. We haven’t been on the lake yet so we needed to go asap.

“Let’s go on the paddleboat” I said “It will be relaxing I said.”

I would soon eat my words. The way out to Blueberry Island was easy enough. It took me a few to get in the rhythm of the boat, but once I got it we were a well oiled machine. Well kind of, the paddle boat is old and rusted, but we were doing well. We stopped on Blueberry Island, the self-named Island where the Broughton clan used to go to pick and eat blueberries and jump off the rope swing. Well… jumping off the rope swing would land us on rock at this point so we decided to take those rocks and skip them. What’s a lake visit with out some solid rock skipping?

We went a little further towards “Treehouse Hill” before turning back. This is when everything went south… or north or east or whatever direction we were going. While on the way out we were with the wind. Now we were going against it in a paddle boat that has seen better days. I don’t mean to sound to dramatic, if anything this “wind” was a light breeze on an otherwise calm lake. But man… that light breeze had me huffing and puffing… I need to get back in shape.

After our “delightful” excursion we chatted with the Broughton’s via Skype for awhile and ate some food while watching TV.

Our night finished over a game of… I can’t remember what it’s called but Bethany’s family used to play it all the time. I’d never played but this time I won, so I made sure we only played one game ;). After packing for our semi-early departure we headed to bed.

Another satisfying day of doing virtually nothing. Tomorrow… travel… Ugh. But hey… We get to see family and that’s something we’ve been severely lacking, outside of each other, this past month.

Cheers,
B&B
